Objective

The course provides a general outlook of the tasks of the professionals and the needed information and skills for their execution. The students can act as individuals and as group members to complete the assignments. They know the work related and problem solving methods as well as the basic principles of project work. The students know the concepts used when creating products, processes, services or systems; they can also communicate with the colleagues and various stakeholders. The students know the information source types in the field, can acquire data and critically assess it from various angles. The students orient themselves and become motivated towards the professional studies.

Content

The student learns the practices of the field by completing a small scale project related to a product, process, service, or a system. The topic of the project is related to the degree programme and it is executed in project groups.

Periods 2 and 3. Classroom teaching.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student
• can describe the duties of the professional as well as the used work methods and problem solving skills and data sources
• can explain how a project is managed and how the tasks of the project are intertwined
• is able to describe one's part of the group work and cooperate in a group
• is able to plan the use of resources and complete one's duties on time
• can describe the group's activities and the results.
The project work is completed and the results are reported.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition to the previous, the student
• can make a project plan for the group and act as a leader of the project group or as an active member and execute the plan according to the set goals
• can work with the group and reorganise work if needed
• is able to point out the quality assurance principles and results of the group
• is able to present the plans and the results of the group both in speaking and writing.
The project achieves the assigned goals.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the previous, the student
• is able to plan a versatile project on a large scale, which entails several subtasks
• is able to prepare for the project work by consulting diverse sources and by scheduling the work
• can plan the quality assurance principles of the whole project.
The project is completed and the results are reported according to the assigned schedule and the set goals are achieved in an excellent way.

The student

• can explain how a project is managed and how the tasks of the project are intertwined
• is able to describe one's part of the group work and cooperate in a group
• is able to plan the use of resources and complete one's duties on time
• can describe the group's activities and the results.
The project work is completed and the results are reported.

Assessment methods and criteria

Completion of the course requires approved reports in communications, technical documentations and a manufactured vehicle.
Course grade shall be defined by the documentations and quality of the vehicle.
