Objective
Students combine holistic health promotion, holistic human perception, biopsychosocial framework and osteopathic principles into their professional activities. Students bring their understanding of philosophy of osteopathy into practice, and are able to integrate it with updated scientific research. Students reflect on the meaning of health in osteopathic treatment, and factors affecting health. Students describe health promotion as a socially multidimensional and multidisciplinary phenomenon, as well as a continuous process that allows people to increase and improve the control of their health. Students find out factors affecting person's health using the motivational conversation in accordance with philosophy of osteopathy. Students use the concepts of the philosophy of osteopathy, as well as make independent choices, examines issues related to interfaces in different fields, and are able to discuss of them together with the person. Students promote health holistically at individual level, and support the harmonious functioning of the autonomic nervous system with osteopathic treatment. Students promote the health of people in different life situations, and people living with different diseases in cooperation with them. Students are able to handle demanding, diverse cases in relation to health promotion challenges; look at them from different angles, search for new information critically and with a person-oriented approach.
Clinical psychology:
After the course, students understand the current understanding of mental health and psychological functioning, and understand the importance of psychological resources for human adaptation and welfare. Student recognise the traumatic crisis of the person, as well as the signs of mental symptom. Students are able to adapt support measures to the person’s needs in traumatic situations, and if necessary refer the person forward to mental health services. Students have the basic skills for good encountering of a person with mental and psychosomatic symptoms
Content
Meaning of health in osteopathic medicine. Health promotion at individual level in the profession of osteopath, with both guidance and treatment. Salutogenesis and health theories. Biopsychosocial model and philosophy of osteopathy . The effects of stress on health, and supporting the harmonious functioning of the autonomic nervous system. FirstBeat. Meaning of nutrition, sleep and rest. Exercise and diseases. Precautions for people who exercise.
Clinical Psychology
Mental health, traumatic crises and psychological resources. Psychically symptomatic person:
identification of the most common psychological disorders, preventive mental health work and referral to treatment. Psychosomatics: the connection of body and mind, differential diagnostics of somatic and psychological pain, as well as somatoform symptoms.
