Objective

The students will be familiar with the theoretical foundations and the basic concepts of social pedagogy as well as different trends in the field. They will be familiar with the typical characteristics of socio-pedagogical work approach. The students are familiar with the value system, ethical concepts and the principles of professional ethics. The students will understand the importance of critical thinking.

Content

Social pedagogy as a field of science and practice. The roots and the development of social pedagogy. Key concepts and operating principles of social pedagogy. Introduction to ethical thinking and professional ethics in the field of social services.

Teaching methods

Welcome to the interesting world of Social Pedagogy! In this 5 credit course, you will explore the fundamental principles that shape our interactions within society. Social pedagogy is more than just a field of study; it's a lens through which we examine the complex dynamics between individuals and the communities they belong to. Throughout this course, you will explore the rich blend of theories and traditions that underlie social pedagogy, giving you a solid foundation to understand its significance in our everyday lives.

From the essential concepts that form the core of social pedagogy to the practical methods that are used, you will gain an overall understanding of how this approach fosters personal and collective development. You will explore various value systems and ethical considerations that guide the practice of social pedagogy. Whether you're new to the concept, seeking to deepen your knowledge, or just practice your academic English skills, this course will give you the opportunity to develop yourself and empower you to contribute positively to the world around you.
The course is implemented entirely as independent online studies. The course has untimed tasks, readings, podcasts, videos and knowledge quizzes. The final task is a short academically written article analysis. The idea is to practice writing academically in English, grammar will not be graded.
