Objective

Learning outcomes
As a student you are able to describe the basic principles of blood banking. You are able to explain the immunological justifications for blood transfusion tests. You can explain the significance of legislation governing blood transfusions and blood safety activities, you understand the potential negative effects of blood transfusions and know the related procedures. You are able to describe blood banking activities as a whole. You know how to collect, handle and preserve samples taken for the blood transfusion tests of people of various ages, and to justify the significance of pre-analytical factors in blood transfusion analytics. You are able to describe various blood products and their requirements. You are able to perform basic examinations for a blood transfusion and to assess responses while following the working guidelines of the quality system. You can describe the method principles of the tests that form the basis for blood transfusions and the factors affecting the reliability of these tests. You are able to explain the clinical significance of various blood type systems and blood transfusion practices. You are able to determine when general procedures can be deviated from and to act in exceptional cases. You are able to describe the tasks and responsibilities of the Blood Service, the hospital blood bank and the care unit, and to instruct and advise the care unit. You work in various working and learning environments and in multidisciplinary teams with a development-oriented approach.
