Objective

The students are able to apply the work orientation and methods of client work in a client-oriented manner. They are able to plan and organise activities socio-pedagogically by strengthening the individual, the group and the community. The students are able to justify, document and evaluate client work and its efficiency.
The students are able to apply the principles of professional ethics in the social field in their work and work communities. They are able to critically reflect on their own actions. The student knows how to take client safety into account at work. The students are familiar with the current research and development in the work community and in the social field.

Content

The internship is carried out in an operating environment, where the students strengthen their competence and professionalism. In the path of early childhood education, the internship is carried out in the work environment of early childhood education. The internship can be completed as an international student exchange.

Location and time

The internship takes place in an environment where the student can strengthen their professional growth as a bachelor of social services and which supports the goals of the studies. Internships can also be completed in international exchanges and projects. Internship cannot be ahoted with previous work experience.
Internship is done during May 2024 - 31.12.2024.

Teaching methods

Work practice, guidance discussions with field supervisor, teacher guidance, learning diary, seminars 1 and 2 (dates published later by the guiding teacher), final discussions.

Student workload

20 credits = 540 hours. Work placement is full-time and uninterrupted.

This course is intended primarily for SXG21S1 students, but all those who plan to start internship during 2024 can enroll.

Work placement 3 is worth 20 credits and lasts for 14 weeks.

This course comes at the end of studies where students are guided in a goal-oriented manner to apply theoretical knowledge from professional studies to practice in the working environment.

Students can register for the 3rd work placement once they have completed about 165 credits.

Students must find their own practice place. The work placement must be in the social services sector and it must correspond the work of sosionomi. Students must have an identified field supervisor. The supervisor should have a social services or similar degree. Work placement is full-time and uninterrupted.

The student can also work as a salaried employee during the work placement.

Those students who start the 3rd internship from May 2024 will work in the digital learning environment Workseed (instructions coming during March-April 2024). If you are starting Internship before May, please contact Taina Konttinen (taina.konttinen@metropolia.fi).

Before starting the internship, the student;
• submits the written plan (A4) to Workseed, in which the student describes their current professional skills and credits, defines learning goals for the internship and briefly presents a proposal/suggestions for possible internships and the planned start date of the internship
The plan will be returned to Workseed by May 15, 2024 (or at least 1 month before the start of the internship).

CLIENT WORK COMPETENCE
• Knows how to justify, document and evaluate client work and its impact in an appropriate manner
• Knows how to use various client work orientations and methods appropriately
• Knows how to plan and organise socio-pedagogical activity for the strengthening of the individual and the community
ETHICAL COMPETENCE
• Knows how to apply professional ethical principles in socio-pedagogical work (personal objectives)
• Knows how critically reflect on his or her own behaviour according to social ethics (should be done in everyday life, acts of supervision at school)
DEVELOPMENT COMPETENCE
• Knows how to apply research and development skills at work
Course is assessed as Pass / Fail

Prerequisites

The students have completed the course Internship 2- Professional Work with Clients in the Social Field
and a total of approximately 165 ECTS.

Further information

Recognition of prior learning (AHOT) is not applicable to Internship 3.
