Objective

Learning outcomes:
The students become acquainted with the work practices, instructions and legislation governing client work. At the work placement The students apply a client-centred approach, act professionally and in accordance with the ethical principles of occupational therapy. The students practice to form therapeutic relationships and reflect afterwards on the outcomes. The students collaborate with other professionals and, if possible, with the client's close persons and relatives. The students also use information from other disciplines to form an overall picture of the client's situation. The students use guidance to support the development of competence.

The students plan the client processes of occupational therapy and consider the benefits of both the individual and group process in order to enable the individual's everyday life and participation. The students utilise theoretical knowledge and evidence-based practice when planning and documenting the client processes in occupational therapy. The students make recommendations and instructions in order to enable the client´s occupational performance. The students give advice and guidance to prevent functional problems. The students evaluate the need for further rehabilitation and opportunities and make recommendations as needed. The students consider the use of digital rehabilitation services to enable the client`s occupational performance. The students analyse the collected information in order to enable meaningfully activity in performance areas, and environments. The students set goals with the client and plan therapeutic activities and occupations in accordance with the goals to enable the client´s occupational performance. The students justify the client process using professional reasoning and evidence-based practice. The students critically evaluate implementing occupational therapy. The students analyse the information collected in relation to the multidisciplinary data. The students give information about the client process orally and in writing.

- Instructions, rules, legislation and safety guiding the work of the occupational therapist
- Job description and related tasks of the occupational therapist
- Client processes in occupational therapy (individual and/or group) and implementation
- Activity analyses and therapeutic occupation
- Forming relationships related to collaboration in occupational therapy
- Utilising expertise gained in therapeutic relationship in client relationships
- Give information about the client process orally and in client platform
- Giving advice and guidance, preventive work, digital services and further rehabilitation.
- Justifying and reflecting one’s own actions
- Evidence-based practice
- Professional reasoning
- Learning objectives set by the students to strengthen competence
- Practical application of theory through learning assignments

Exam schedules

Harjoitteluun liittyvää oppimistehtävää toteutetaan prosessinomaisesti koko harjoittelun ajan ja siihen liittyvä osaaminen esitetään harjoittelun pienryhmätapaamisissa, ei kirjallista tehtävää.

Harjoittelun hyväksyminen edellyttää kaikkien harjoitteluun liittyvien tekojen toteuttamista (kts.kohta työmuodot).

Prerequisites

Prerequisites:
Before attending the course, the students must have completed minimum of 75 ECTS, including competence from the following courses: Work Placement in Occupational Therapy 1, Enabling Occupational Performance 2 and 3

Further information

Further information:
The degree in occupational therapy includes four work placements 10 ECTS each. Every work placement must differ from each other referring to the (WFOT minimum standards). The students acquire the work placement themselves and confirm the placement with the lecturer in charge. In the third work placement the students will consider whether they need an occupational therapist as a clinical supervisor to develop their competence.
