Objective
Students
- deepen their evidence-based competence in accordance with the key competence areas of nursing: clinical, decision-making, patient education, interaction, ethical, health promotion, and development and leadership competence
- can evaluate their evidence-based development and assume responsibility for the quality of nursing in their own actions
- are prepared for future-oriented and patient/client-oriented development of nursing
- deepen their competence in planning, implementing, evaluating and developing mental health and substance abuse nursing and crisis intervention in different operating environments (focus on adults and the elderly)
- deepen their competence in supporting and giving guidance to patients and their significant others in different phases of the clinical pathway

The implementation parts:
- 5 ECTS Children's and adolescent's mental health nursing. This part is done in cooperation with Acute pediatric nursing implementation.
- 9 ECTS Mental health, crisis and substance abuse nursing focusing on nursing of adults. The content: the nursing of mood disorders, psychotic illnesses, personality disorders, eating disorders, anxiety, dissociative disorders and dependencies The focus is on supportive nurse - patient interaction. Framework is Recovery orientation.
This is an advanced course in Degree Program Nursing. It is for the last academic year. Completion of the course requires basic studies and basic exercises. Development of Nurse Expertise - Clinical Practice can not be started until all basic exercises have been successfully completed.
Attendance in orientation is compulsory. Continuous assessment, active participation during the theory lessons. Mandatory attendance 80% in theory classes.
Non-attendance must be compensated (written assignement).
Criteria for participating the course are: basic studies (theory and practice) need to be accepted. Minimum 150 ects completed.
Students must confirm their attendance for a course implementation by being present when tuition begins or in another manner agreed with the lecturer; for example, by returning the first course assignment. Students who are unable to attend the first teaching session due to illness may also confirm their attendance by informing the lecturer of this in advance.
Tuition is in Finnish.
All assignments and materials (Power Point presentations etc.) are under Copyright Act (404/61) and a teacher has the copyright. Assignments and materials are not allowed to be distributed or used in any other way. Distributing materials are only allowed if the teacher grants the permit.

Numeric evaluation 0-5.
Children's and adolescent's mental health nursing exam (1/3) and written learning assignment (2/3).
Dialogue exam pass / fail
Medication calculation exam pass / fail
The assignment must be submitted latest on 17.3.2024.
It is possible to try to improve the grade of the written assignment once as agreed with the course teacher. The revised assignment must be submitted latest on 26.4.2024.
Children's and adolescent's mental health nursing written exam will be at week 38. The first resit examination in the exam class will be in week XX Second resit examination will be in week XX
All the web-based assignments must be completed and submitted according to the timetable.
Attendance in theory classes is required, absences must be compensated with a written assignment.
Evaluating competences evaluation criteria expert is used.
Prerequisites
The student may choose the nursing expertise studies when he has completed the theoretical studies included in the professional nursing studies and clinical practices included in these, unless otherwise agreed in the student's ISP.
