Objective

The student will be able to
• identify questions and needs for development in their professional field and working life and plan solutions to them in accordance with the principles of sustainable development
• use reliable information from various sources to base and frame their work
• apply their professional knowledge and appropriate methods and working methods in their development work.

Content

• Familiarisation with the thesis process
• Contractual and permitting practices
• Familiarisation with the environment and planning of cooperation with working life
• Identifying the need for development
• Source-critical information gathering in Finnish and English
• Choice of working methods and methodologies
• Specifying the topic
• Drawing up and presenting a development plan

Location and time

- The schedules of teaching contacts, ideation workshops and the thesis plan seminar can be found in the calendar.
- Teaching contacts and group meetings take place remotely with a Zoom or Teams connection. Replacing an absence approved by the teacher with a substitute assignment.
- Teachers' guidance takes place via Wihi and remotely with a Zoom or Teams connection.
- Independent work during the course and between scheduled contacts.

Teaching methods

- Independent work.
- Utilizing OMA and Moodle workspaces and the use of Wihi.
- Teaching contacts, ideation workshops and thesis plan seminar, where attendance is required.
- Instructions for using teachers' guidance are given in the course start information.

- Other possible information related to working and learning activities related to the course will be announced by the teachers after the start of the course.

Assessment methods and criteria

- In order to complete the course, the thesis plan must be returned to Wihi according to the instructions given during the course, and the plan must be acceptable to the teachers.

Qualifications

Competence in research and development methods in accordance with the curriculum.
