Objective

The students are familiar with the different working environments and work orientations in the field of social services. They understand the process-like quality of work with service users and identify the various phases of the client process as well as the different micro, meso, and macro dimensions of the work. The students understand the importance of supporting the agency of the service user. They are familiar with the concept of reflection and understand its importance. The students are introduced to multi-professional collaboration in the field of social services. Introduction to and use of professional vocabulary in English and Finnish in the field of social services.

Content

Different work environments of the Bachelor of Social Services. Micro, meso, and macro levels of involvement in social services. Practices in preventative work and early support, social rehabilitation, constructive work in individual and community settings. The agency and involvement of the service user in the work approach of social services. The status and rights of the social welfare client. Reflection and its significance in the work of the Bachelor of Social Services. The basic principles of teamwork, participant roles, and multi-professional co-operation in the field of social services. Simple English and Finnish vocabulary and phrases used in counselling and guidance work with diverse service users.
