Objective

The student acknowledges the strategic nature of procurement and the different ways to organize sourcing.
The student is able to:
• evaluate the impact of megatrends on procurement and the external and internal influences on company strategy and how to manage external resources.
• analyze how procurement strategy is linked to the company vision, mission and strategy.
• exploit a spend-analysis, classify purchases and create a purchasing portfolio analysis.
• apply maturity models in assessing the status and development potential of the procurement function.
• co-create a sustainable procurement strategy for a company and consider the competitive advantage of supply chains.
• predict and create scenarios based on supply-demand market data relevant for his/her own industry.
• create an outsourcing plan and to conduct in-depth make-or-buy analyses.

Location and time

The introduction to the course and first lecture will be on 1.9. 13:00-16:00. and as hybrid implementation.

Teaching methods

Online lectures via Zoom or Teams.
Online learning material and individual and group assignment and tests via Moodle learning platform.
Link to Zoom or Teams and Moodle pages will be sent via email to the students once the enrolment is complete.

The more detailed content of the course, assignments and assessment will be discussed during the first lesson.
The main content is: Operating environment, Company and Procurement strategy, Maturity and Porfolio models.

The main objectives of the course:
- The student acknowledges the strategic nature of procurement and the different ways to organize sourcing.
- The student is able to evaluate the impact of megatrends on procurement and the external and internal influences on company strategy and how to manage external resources.
- The student is able to analyze how procurement strategy is linked to the company vision, mission and strategy.
- The student is able to exploit a spend-analysis, classify purchases and create a purchasing portfolio analysis.

- The student is able to co-create a sustainable procurement strategy for a company and consider the competitive advantage of supply chains.

Further information

Prerequisites of the participation:
This course is for Master level studies and part of the Procurement Master's program. Therefore you should have completed bachelor level studies already and having some prior knowledge of procurement is recommended.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Sufficient performance: has completed basic requirements to pass the course and has made an attempt to apply and articulate concepts and information both verbally and in writing but has not made enough effort overall. The student has demonstrated little effort, interest and motivation for individual or team activities / assignments and the output is rather weak.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good overall performance: can apply and articulate concepts and information well both verbally and in writing, certain areas of individual or team output require further attention; shows appropriate level of interest and motivation in individual and team activities. Good presentation delivery and analysis.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent performance in all elements of the course: shows interest and motivation in individual and team activities and assignments, fully applies and clearly articulates concepts and information both verbally and in writing. The student is able to support his/her argument with references to the recommended reading and lecture content. Excellent presentation delivery and analysis.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed
