Further information

TEACHERS:
Seija Mäenpää (Visual Art)
Jouni Piekkari (Drama and playful methods)
Satu Hakanen (Music)

The teaching is carried out in English, but the learning tasks and e.g. improvisations can be done in Finnish. No prior knowledge or experience of creative methods is required, but anyone interested in learning is welcome. The course offers a good opportunity to use professional English in a multicultural environment. Students of Finnish and English degree programs and exchange students participate in the course.

The course is based on workshop-style contact teaching, where you get to know the use of visual art methods, drama, games and music in social pedagogical work. The independent project of the course is the planning and implementation of two workshops with a customer group.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT DRAMA: Drama education offers methods that can help the group explore even challenging topics in a safe and stimulating way. With the help of drama methods, you can also help the group to find their own topics, problems and solutions to them. In the section, we learn how different groups can be safely led into dramatic activities. We also consider how to create learning goals together with the group. In addition, we learn methods of group management and motivation with different customer groups in the social sector. Drama also offers ways to integrate different forms of expression: music, dance, film, visual expression, etc. to suit different learners and mentalities and for different situations.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT MUSIC:
Research has shown that music can support and develop many aspects of a person, such as language development, memory, well-being. With the help of music, you can safely learn to know more about yourself, your own thoughts and feelings. It can also serve as a gateway to other people and different cultures. Music activities can also be used to strengthen the sense of community and inclusiveness of groups. In the sections, you will learn about different ways of working in music, such as singing, playing, musical exercise and listening to music. The above-mentioned working methods are tested and planned by ourselves, and at the same time we especially think about how they could support the well-being of the customer and customer groups. In the classes of the music section, the main focus is on experimenting with music, self-expression and improvisation.

In VISUAL ART activities, the main focus is on making visual art together using different methods. Let's paint, draw and build. Weather/group size permitting, we can make a visit from the perspective of cultural cooperation (HAM museum workshop led by an art museum pedagogue or Kontula's street art sites led by a community artist). Visual art lessons give ideas for applying visual art activities in practice.
