Objective

After completing the course, the students are able to:
• communicate fluently and efficiently in English for professional study and work assignments at home and abroad.
• use English to develop their professional skills.
• act naturally in multicultural environments, taking into account the specificities of communication situations and the cultural and linguistic background of participants.
• obtain the necessary information from various sources in their professional field, and process and communicate it in writing and orally.
• use the vocabulary of clothing, sustainable development and general working life.
• use professional vocabulary related to product instructions.
• evaluate their own language and communication skills realistically, and maintain a positive attitude for developing these skills as part of their expertise.

Content

Occupational international and domestic interaction situations: individual and group communication. Key concepts and terms used in the profession. Professional text practices and text types. Acquisition, processing, application and sharing of knowledge and reading scientific materials in a foreign language. Professional organizations, work environments, tasks, processes and tools. Training and career planning in the clothing industry. Self-assessment of language and communication skills and the development of one's own learning strategies. Vocabulary and text exercises, discussion and listening comprehension exercises. Drawing up written assignments and instructions.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

In field-specific communication situations the students:
• are able to cope with the help of clarifying questions and short utterances.
• understand the communication partner enough to be able to act appropriately.
• express their thoughts in professional contexts in simple structures, mostly coherently and in a manner that can be understood although the utterance is not free from mistakes that make it more difficult for the listener to understand the message.
• are familiar with professional vocabulary but are not always able to use it correctly.
• make mistakes in pronunciation, but they do not hinder understanding.
• are able to write simple work-related texts according to a template, as well as more extensive texts with the help of linguistic aids although the message may not be totally conveyed due to mistakes in the language usage.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In field-specific communication situations the students:
• manage in field-specific communication as intended.
• initiate communication in professional communication situations, paying some attention to the linguistic and cultural backgrounds of the participants.
• express themselves clearly and rather accurately.
• use professional vocabulary rather correctly.
• pronounce English clearly enough to convey the message.
• write texts that follow the conventions of various genres without major mistakes that would hinder understanding.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In field-specific communication situations the students:
• participate in field-specific communication and follow the appropriate conventions of the situation.
• initiate communication also in demanding professional communication situations, taking the linguistic and cultural backgrounds of the participants into account.
• use language efficiently, accurately, fluently and almost without mistakes.
• use professional vocabulary correctly.
• pronounce English clearly and fluently, using prosodic features that emphasize the message.
• write texts that are clear, well composed, almost free from mistakes, and follow the conventions of the intended genre.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Pass:
In field-specific communication situations the students:
• are able to cope with the help of clarifying questions and short utterances.
