Objective

The student understands the role of both product/service and organizational innovation in the race for competitive advantage in digital era. The student is familiar with the innovation and change processes in business organizations; has the knowledge and skills to manage innovation and renewal on strategic and operational levels, within both a product and service environment. The student understands the interdisciplinary and multifunctional nature of innovation, and can apply an innovative approach in his/her work life.

Assignment outline: There is one assignment in the course. It is an in-depth analysis of the innovation management approaches and structures in the student’s own organization, including a Development plan for innovation in the student’s own organization. Additionally, a study trip abroad is arranged in May as part of this course (if the epidemiological and organization situation allows for it). The trip is not compulsory, but is highly recommended. Those who do not join the trip will have another task to do.

Location and time

There will be 3 on-campus meetings:
17.3., 21.4., 12.5., all on the same time at 13-16 pm.

Learning outcomes of the course;

The student understands the role of both product/service and organizational innovation in the race for competitive advantage in digital era. The student is familiar with the innovation and change processes in business organizations; has the knowledge and skills to manage innovation and renewal on strategic and operational levels, within both a product and service environment. International connections

The course includes an offering of a short study trip in early May 2023 (as planned in October 2022). The study trip is NOT mandatory, and the student may skip it. The announcement about the study trip will come in February 2023.

Student workload

The course workload is 5 ECTS, which is appx. 130h of work (including classes, readings, assignments, self-study and a study trip, in case the student is interested to join and there are places available).

Sufficient performance: has completed basic requirements to pass the course and has made an attempt to apply and articulate concepts and information both verbally and in writing but has not made enough effort overall. The student has demonstrated little effort, interest and motivation for individual or team activities / assignments and the output is rather weak.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good overall performance: can apply and articulate concepts and information well both verbally and in writing, certain areas of individual or team output require further attention; shows appropriate level of interest and motivation in individual and team activities. Good presentation delivery and analysis.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent performance in all elements of the course: shows interest and motivation in individual and team activities and assignments, fully applies and clearly articulates concepts and information both verbally and in writing. The student is able to support his/her argument with references to the recommended reading and lecture content. Excellent presentation delivery and analysis.
