Learning outcomes

The goal of this course is for the student to be familiar with ASP .NET Web Forms as one of the most powerful server-side Web application framework. After passing this course, the student will have sufficient knowledge and understanding over characteristics, abilities, and features of ASP .NET and .NET Framework. The students will be able to create a whole new project by himself/herself and work with all the major ASP .NET server controls. To finalize the getting best out of ASP .NET features, the students will be familiar with user controls, state management, master pages. Finally, by understanding the difference between dynamic and static applications and websites, the students will be able to have the knowledge of creating dynamic applications and websites.

Descriptions and comparison of dynamic web programming frameworks – The importance of dynamic applications – Active Server Pages history – How .NET Framework works – Compatible programming languages with ASP .NET – Server Controls - Namespaces – Introduction to Visual Studio – Error Handling, Logging, and Tracing – State Management – Validation – Master pages, Styles, and Themes – Website Navigation – ASP .NET Default Folders - Performance tips - Security tips.

- The student understands why we need dynamic applications in some projects.
- The student is familiar with the most popular ASP .NET features.
- The student is familiar with the most popular ASP .NET server controls.
- The student can properly select a programming language based on his/her knowledge to work with ASP .NET.
- The student is able to properly install and implement .NET Framework to run his/her ASP .NET applications.
- The student is familiar with the environment of MS Visual Studio.
- The student is familiar with the default folders of ASP .NET.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

- The student is able to create, manage, and work with ASP .NET server controls.
- The student is able to understand and work with namespaces.
- The student understands the process of validation and is able to use it with server controls.
- The student is able to simplify his/her project’s file with using master pages.

- The student is able to apply Error Handling, Logging, and Tracing in his/her applications.
- The student is able to use State Management.
- The student is able to apply performance and security tips for his/her applications.
