Work placement 4: Promotion of occupational participation in groups and communities (15 ECTS)

Objective

Students are able to analyse, modify and apply occupation for different clients. Students work in one or more optional areas of occupational therapy in Finland or abroad. Students are able to act as part of a team. Students plan and implement individual, group and community processes almost independently. They apply occupation therapeutically in communities. Students reflect on and examine their own experiences on different occupational therapy situations. Students develop their own therapeutic relationship skills. Students are able to seek and make use of evidence-based information and raise good practices benefiting the community or society for public debate.

Approved
The student is able to:
- apply professional knowledge in the field appropriately
- use concepts and information in his field - argue a course of action on the basis of research information
and findings
- find information and argue the use of his sources
- work in various duties depending on the assignment
- define the principles of and requirements for his actions
- show that he has achieved the targets for core competence
- find out the safety instructions concerning a word assignments and to act accordingly
- act according to the relevant professional ethical principles
- plan and guide the operation of multidisciplinary groups
- communicate about professional issues
Failed
- The student does not know or appreciate knowledge in the field sufficiently
- The student cannot use concepts in the field properly
- The student's professional level is insufficient to be an expert
- The student is not acting in accordance with his training and guidance
- The student is careless about professional safety or ethical principles
- The student is not motivated by or participating in group or development work

Assessment methods and criteria

all learning assignments must be ready when work placement period ends.
1) all hours and days are completed
2) learning assigments are completed
3) students own evaluation and the feedback from work placement is completed

After work placement period is finished supervisor has 4 weeks time to do the assesment.

Students are expected to find a workplace suitable for their own learning independently. It is possible to do this work placement as an international work placement.
