Study Guide

Objective

Learning outcomes:
The students use occupational therapy based theory, research data and research methods when planning, implementing and evaluating research and development activities. The students identify the current research and development needs in Finland and choose a research and development target. The students justify the choices related to research and development from the perspective of occupational therapy. The students know the phases of the research and development process and apply them to their Bachelor’s Thesis. The students name the key funding opportunities for projects and research in Finland and develop a project idea as teamwork that complies with the funder's requirements. The students communicate as experts in various research and development tasks and environments.

- Research strategies, positions and processes in R&D activities and in the Bachelor’s thesis
- Methods of analysis of the research and development environment
- Multidisciplinary cooperation and network cooperation
- Funding channels for R&D activities in the social and health care sector
- Basics in scientific writing
- Communication in research and development tasks and projects

- master the concepts of the field and can apply them to the right contexts
- search and combine information from different sources and understand the significance of source criticism as well as
- show they have familiarized themselves with the knowledge base of the field
- act appropriately in the typical tasks and situations of the professional field
-apply the principles of client-oriented work and
- evaluate their own choices and own actions in professional situations.
- act according to the ethical principles
of their professional field,
- take safety related questions into consideration in their actions as well as
- evaluate their own strengths and development needs.

Students
- seek information from different sources and evaluate the source reliability in a purposeful manner,
- combine information from different sources into purposeful units as well as
-utilize and apply the information base in the field.
- apply their competence in professional situations,

- demonstrate the ability to solve professional tasks and problems as well as
- can justify the presented points of view and their own action in a professional manner.
- act in accordance with the ethical principles of the professional field and can justify their actions,
- act professionally in the work community and share their competence
- act in a responsible and goal-oriented way and takes into account the security related questions,
- develop themselves as professionals

- apply professional terminology and knowledge base in a fluent and versatile manner,
-combine new learning contents as parts of wider phenomena in the field,

- solve versatile professional tasks and problems as well as
- justify the expressed points of view, evaluate their actions and their consequences in a professional way.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oppimistehtävät (0-5). Annariikan osuus NPT: tiivistystehtävä ryhmässä (esitys 31.8 kampuksella, palautus 31.8) ja oppimispäiväkirja itsenäisesti (palautus 3.9.23). Marianne osuus: blogikirjoitus.
Tehtävänannot arviointikriteereineen käydään läpi opintojakson alussa.

Before attending the course, the students must have completed the competence from the following courses: Professional Communication in Finnish and English, Basics of Therapeutic Occupation/Activity, Environmental Factors Affecting Occupational Performance 1, Me as Occupational Therapist, Assessing Occupational Performance 2, Enabling Occupational Performance 1
