Objective

Students are able to treat different kinds of persons in treatment situations. They can analyse the symptoms of their patient under supervision. Students are capable of communicating with their patients and peer students in an understandable and clear way. They participate in patient’s osteopathic diagnostics and draw up a treatment plan in cooperation with their supervising teacher and peer students. Students can plan treatment and combine various techniques holistically under supervision. They take into consideration the condition of tissues and know how to apply treatment techniques accordingly. They are able to describe the objectives set for the treatment, its effects and prognosis to the patient. Students can plan a course of treatment with guidelines.Students plan and implement marketing, sales and take part in various client service activities. Students are able to introduce their profession to other health care professionals. They can assess their own and other people’s work and competence. Students are capable of taking responsibility for their group’s learning and sharing the acquired knowledge.
Pharmacology: 1 cr
Students understand the concepts of pharmacology, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. They know how to take into account the effects of medicines, their administration and special requirements of various age groups as part of their patient’s state of health and symptoms.

Content

Interview, observation and examination routines. Differential diagnosis. Osteopathic diagnosis, treatment and patient education. Working at the reception. Marketing, sales and client service skills. International week. Multi professional problem solving.
Pharmacology: 1 cr
Terminology and research activities in pharmacology. Pharmacodynamics and pharmacology. Different ways of administering medicines and side effects. Cardiovascular medication. Medication of respiratory symptoms and illnesses. Medication of neurological diseases. Medication of acute and chronic pain and infections. Physiatric examination and treatment methods.

Location and time

Supervised clinical practice in HyMy-kylä learning environment from January to May.

Materials

Student is using all previous courses material; anatomy, physiology, functional anatomy, patophysiology, and so on.

Student reads Clinical Handbook.

Assignments and materials may not be used other than in your own studies. The public distribution of these is only allowed with the permission of the teacher.

In case the student has received a decision for individual support, which can affect the completion of the study unit, the student should be in touch with the responsible teacher of the study unit directly after the ending of the enrolment period.
