Objective

Students know their physical and social study environment and the academic counselling and study practices at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. Students know the structure of the curriculum and they are able to complete their study plan. Students recognize their strengths and development areas in learning. Students are capable of international skills development and goal-oriented career planning.

The student is able to communicate and interact when studying and in working life. The student is able to produce various types of texts in their own field for different channels. The student is familiar with the good practices of oral and written communication and is able to apply them appropriately. The student is able to utilise their language and communication skills for the continuous development of their thinking and expertise.

Students know how to operate in the academic ICT environment. Students know how to use the academic information systems, office suite software and social media tools.

- Physical and social study environment and the essential rules and regulations concerning higher education
- Academic counselling and study practices, learning and study skills, curricula, study planning and Individual Study Plan (ISP)
- Student affairs and services
- Information about work in the relevant industry and international skills
- Basics of information retrieval and referencing guidelines
- Academic writing
- Oral communication and interaction skills
- Expert-level text skills and writing of professional texts
- Interaction skills: customer communication, group work and negotiation situations
- Presentation skills, effective speaking and giving feedback
- Communication in project and in research and development work
- Communication planning and assessment
- Good practices of digital communication
- Pertinent information systems at Metropolia, office suite software and social media tools

Further information

Lectures and Zoom-sessions will be recorded for the participants. The recordings will be distributed for example by Microsoft Stream and Google Classroom. The recordings will be available for 2 years. If a student will not want to participate recordings, student should discuss with lecturer.

Students know the key study practices and can fluently use information tehcnological systems needed in their studies. Students can reflectively assess their own learning processes and are able to develop their learning abilities. Students can use and produce both oral and written materials needed in specialized professional work in a goal-oriented way. Students show willingness to develop their competencies in interactive and communication skills as specialists in their field.
