Business Intelligence (5 ECTS)

Objective

The student understands the importance of Business Intelligence (BI), Business Performance Management and Knowledge-Based Management and their relation to corporate strategy.
He/she is able to evaluate how BI and analytics can create a common language for an organization and enable strategy implementation and synchronization of the business data.
He/she is able to describe BI architecture and software. He/she understands the principles of data warehouse design.
The student knows the vocabulary of the field and is able to participate in development projects as an expert in his/her business area.

Location and time

Lähiopetus Myyrmäessä, Online tapaamiset Zoomissa: linkki Omassa, kurssin etusivulla. Kurssi alkaa viikolla 43 ja päättyy viimeistään viikolle 50, katso viimeisemmät kalenteritiedot OMA:sta.

Materials

E-kirjat, artikkelit ja lähteet julkaistaan kurssin alussa, kurssin kotisivuilla. Seuraathan Omaa kurssin aikana: dokumentteja, slaideja ja tehtäviä lisätään sinne.

Teaching methods

Pyritään pitämään luennot kampuksella, koska kurssi sisältää paljon työkalujen käyttöä ja demonstrointia ja se on helpompi toteuttaa paikan päällä, kysyn preferensseistä kuitenkin vielä ennen kurssin alkua. Läsnäolo ei pakollinen mutta vahvasti suositeltavaa. Ei tenttejä. Arviointi pohjautuu aktiiviseen osallistumiseen ja palautettaviin tehtäviin. Opetuskieli suomi, valtaosa materiaalista englannin kielistä.

Ei tenttejä vaan arviodaan tehtävien ja aktiivisuuden perusteella, noudatahan tehtävien deadlineja tarkasti heti kurssin alusta alkaen.

Student workload

Viikottaisia tehtäviä, vaatii itsenäistä ajankäyttöä, aiheeseen tutustumista ja valmistautumista luennoille. Tasainen työpanos, ei kumuloidu kurssin loppuun.

Aloitetaan perusasioista edetään vaativampiin: raportoinnin työkaluista tiedonlouhintaan.

Kurssilla saat paljon valmiuksia ja uusia työkaluja toimia datateknisessä työmaailmassa menestyksekkäästi, kurssi on saanut aiemmilta toteutuksilta erinomaista palautetta ja useat opiskelijat ovat kertoneet tarinoita, kuinka ovat pystyneet etenemään urallaan kurssin työkaluja käyttäen.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Sufficient performance: has completed basic requirements to pass the course and has made an attempt to apply and articulate concepts and information both verbally and in writing but has not made enough effort overall. The student has demonstrated little effort, interest and motivation for individual or team activities / assignments and the output is rather weak.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good overall performance: can apply and articulate concepts and information well both verbally and in writing, certain areas of individual or team output require further attention; shows appropriate level of interest and motivation in individual and team activities. Good presentation delivery and analysis.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent performance in all elements of the course: shows interest and motivation in individual and team activities and assignments, fully applies and clearly articulates concepts and information both verbally and in writing. The student is able to support his/her argument with references to the recommended reading and lecture content. Excellent presentation delivery and analysis.

Pohjautuu 100% itsenäisesti toteutettavista tehtävistä, arvosanaa voi korottaa aktiivisella osallistumisella.
