Objective

The student can compose, arrange and write music for various pedagogical purposes. The student can creatively utilize various methods of music writing. The student is able to use music technology naturally as part of their expression. The student is able to work purposefully in a group and to give and receive constructive feedback on their own music and that of others. The student is able to express their musical opinions verbally and in writing and capable of producing a recording of their own music.

Content

Writing pedagogical compositions for different purposes and ensembles. Seminar work and completing assignments alone and in small groups. Creative composing and writing lyrics. Music technology for recording. Making demo recordings from one’s own music.

Location and time

Creative music making sessions on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. from 4 September 2024. Note the spaces and the group at different times! In some sessions the whole group is together (all) and in some sessions the pop jazz (PJ) and classical (CL) students are divided into their own groups according to the following program. The teachers are Jere Laukkanen, Joonas Pohjonen, Joona Pirilä ja Kristian Suninen.

Exam schedules

No exam. The required competences are primarily demonstrated with learning assignments, secondarily in a manner agreed with the teacher.

Completion alternatives

Must be agreed with the teacher individually in the beginning of the semester/course.
All tasks related to course implementation must be completed during implementation in accordance with the implementation plan.

The student is able to write music for pedagogical purposes. The student is able to apply different methods of writing music. The student is able to produce a recording of their own music by making use of music technology.

Prerequisites

The student is able to use essential music applications and music technology tools.
The student knows the main means of expression in Western musical notation and is able to apply them in their own music production.
The student is able to listen to and study the music and lyrics of both themselves and others analytically, and apply what they have learned into making their own music.
The student is able to work actively and proactively in a group, as well as discuss and give constructive feedback on the contributions of other group members.
