Objective
The student is able to guide the learner’s instrumental learning in group tuition. The student is able to support learning in a motivational manner for both individuals and the group. The student is able to identify and solve challenges in learning processes, utilize group dynamics, and prepare meaningful learning assignments for the group. The student is able to creatively apply different musical elements to group tuition. The student is able to teach improvisation to a group considering the musical and stylistic contexts. The student is capable of reflecting on their pedagogical group tuition competence and conducting continuous professional development.

Advanced content of group pedagogy and group dynamics, advanced pedagogy of improvisation, individual and collaborative reflection, observation of teaching and learning, ePortfolio, instrument group teaching practice.

A total of 3 ECTS credits of teaching practice will be completed with two pairs of practice students or small groups over the course of the semester.
Exam schedules
The final submission date for teaching diaries and assignment returns is May 3rd, after the completion of the teaching practice.
Teaching diaries must be submitted to the Assignments folder in the course workspace.
Completion alternatives
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) based on work experience or previous studies, as well as the possibility to complete the course through projects, will be agreed upon separately. Absences can be compensated by completing the self-study assignments in the Assignments folder of the course workspace.

OSA1: KAIKILLE YHTEISET LUENNOT
Yhteiset luennot tiistaisin klo 13-15.30 luokassa AS 522 Linkki luentoaikatauluihin löytyy opintojakson etusivulta.
OSA 2. INSTRUMENTTILUENNOT
- Kevään mittaan olevista instrumenttikohtaisista luennoista ja opetusharjoittelun järjestämisestä vastaa ja antaa lisätietoja kunkin instrumentin pedagogisista opinnoista vastaava opettaja. Linkki luentoaikatauluihin löytyy opintojakson etusivulta. Mikäli oman instrumenttisi tiedot puuttuvat, ota yhteyttä instrumenttisi pedagogisten opintojen vastuuopettajaan. Osana instrumenttiluentoja tehdään 3 kpl opettajan antamia observointitehtäviä.
OSA 3 OPETUSHARJOITTELU
- Kevään aikana suoritettava opetusharjoittelu (12x45min) tehdään kahden harjoitusoppilasryhmän, tai -parin kanssa. Myös opetusharjoittelun järjestelyistä ja ajankohdasta sovitaan pedagogisista opinnoista vastaavan opettajan kanssa.
- Opetusharjoittelua ohjaava opettaja seuraa kevään aikana jokaisen opiskelijan opetusharjoittelua 7x45min ja käy seuraamansa tunnin jälkeen 15 min. palautekeskustelun (tai vastaavat määrät).
- Opiskelija pitää opetuksestaan päiväkirjaa. Päiväkirjapohjat löytyvät opintojakson Dokumentit-kansiosta.
- Opetusharjoittelun päiväkirjat palautetaan asianmukaisesti täytettyinä opetusharjoittelun päätyttyä työtilan Tehtävät- kansioon.
Opintojakson kaikki oppimistehtävät tulee olla palautettuina viimeistään 3.5.

PART 3: TEACHING PRACTICE
The teaching practice (12 x 45 minutes) is carried out during the spring with two practice student groups or pairs. The arrangements and timing of the teaching practice must also be agreed upon with the teacher responsible for pedagogical studies.
The supervising teacher will observe 7 x 45 minutes of each student’s teaching and provide 15 minutes of feedback after each observed lesson (or equivalent amounts).
Students must keep a teaching diary of their practice. Templates for the diary are available in the Documents folder of the course workspace.
Completed teaching diaries must be properly filled out and submitted to the Assignments folder in the course workspace after the teaching practice is completed.
FINAL SUBMISSION DEADLINE
All learning assignments for the course must be submitted by May 3rd.

CONSCUENSE OF MISUSE
Any use of AI that violates these guidelines will be considered academic misconduct and handled according to the institution's policies. For example, presenting AI-generated text as your own work is strictly prohibited.

Always disclose if you have used AI in completing an assignment.
This includes, for example:
Using AI to help generate ideas or edit text.

Assessment methods and criteria
The basis for evaluation includes teaching lessons for two student groups of your own instrument and submitting a teaching diary.
Preparing lesson plans, completing learning and observation tasks.
100% attendance is required for the common lectures. In case of absences, self-study assignments in the Assignments folder must be completed.
Qualifications
The student knows group teaching methods and is able to conduct group tuition in their own instrument. The student is able to construct a culture of positive group dynamics and is able to identify learning processes both in individuals and the group. The student is able to apply diverse teaching methods in different learning situations. The student is able to choose appropriate musical and pedagogical materials considering their group’s needs. The student is able to give constructive group feedback while being supportive and respective of individual strengths. The student is able to evaluate how prepared the group is for improvisation and is able to apply different teaching methods to develop improvisation skills in the group.
