Fundamentals of Music for Professional Musician 2 (5 ECTS)

Learning outcomes

The student is able to identify, describe and illustrate in writing and orally the following musical parameters: melody, harmony, rhythm and form. Using relevant repertoire, the student is able to analyze and illustrate the unique features of the music. In addition, the student is able to work independently.

Content

The course contains three components: music theory, aural skills, and rhythm training.

Theory:
- harmonic analysis
- melodic tension in tonal harmony and non-chord tone analysis
- voice-leading of small pieces
- scales
Aural skills:
- melodies in major and minor keys
- bass progressions
- chord progressions containing chromatic tones in major and minor keys
Rhythm:
- the most common complex/odd meters and meter changes
- polyrhythms and polymetric sequences
- tempo changes and metric modulation
- time feel, flow and swing as well as phrasing and articulation in different styles.

Prerequisites

Fundamentals of Musicianship for Professional Musicians 1 or equivalent knowledge and skills.

Teoria- ja säveltapailuopetus tapahtuu 19.1.2023 alkaen torstaisin klo 13:15-14:45 lk AS417. Opettajana toimii Kai Lindberg

Rytmiikka 2 -tunnin aika vaihtuu. Uusi aika on torstaisin kello 9-10:30, ja paikka on AS417. Ensimmäinen tapaaminen 19.1.-23. Rytmiikan opettaja on Marko Puro.

- vaihtuvat tahtilajit
- epäsymmetriset tahtilajit ja tahtien poikkeusjaot (esim. 3+2+3/8)
- polyrytmit: duoli, trioli, kvartoli, kvintoli, sekstoli ja septoli
- additiivinen ja divisiivinen rytmikäsitys
- fraseeraus – agogiikka – tyylien kertaus
- clavet
- polyrytmin ja polymetrin käsitteet
- metriset modulaatiot
- polymetriset sekvenssit
