Learning outcomes

The student gains competence in writing instrumental and/or vocal melodies with basic harmonies both in the given style and independently. The student is able to utilize various methods of music writing in their activities and becomes familiar with the significance of lyrics in a song. The student learns how to write music in a team and is able to produce a demo recording. The student is also capable of expressing their musical views both verbally and in writing.

Content

Seminar work and completing set assignments both in groups and independently. Forms, melodies, harmonies and rhythms of Western popular music and jazz. Methods, techniques and assignments in music and lyric writing. Information on the working life and copyright.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

In order to receive an approved grade, the student:
- Has completed the agreed tasks according to schedule
- Can specify the importance of different music writing methods in creative music making
- Is able to produce the necessary demo material (recording, musical score, etc.) of their own music
- Is able to work independently.
