Objective

The student knows the systematic methodological approach of the conservation process and is able to apply it for different types of objects, artefacts and situations. The student is able to give reasons for his/her conservation decisions on basis of this above methodology.
The student recognizes and understands that material and immaterial significance and values are related to cultural heritage. The student knows the significance method and is able to apply it in different kind of cultural contexts.

Student workload

The weekly working hours of a student is 1,5 cr, which is equivalent to 40 hours of studies and independent work. 40 hours is formed from approx. 20- 22 hours of contact studies with a lecturer. The remaining hours are dedicated for independent literature survey or independent practical work. 1 credit (cr) is equivalent to 26 study / practical work hours (h).

Content scheduling

Lectures via ZOOM by Salvador Munoz-Vinas : 7-9. 9 2022. Other lectures in situ, at the conservation studies department. Independent work with literature and a presentation of an article.

Lectures are given in english, guidance for practical work according to students´own language (finnish or english)

The student comprehends the basic concepts, terminology and methods of the course subject. The student masters the basic elements of the course and understands the key contents of the course. The student understands the necessary theoretical and applied principles related to the course theme. The student is able to acquire independently reliable data upon course theme.

The student masters well the basic elements of the course and understands the key contents of the course. The student understands the theoretical and applied principles related to the course theme. The student understands the significance method and is able to apply it in his/her own assignments. The student is able to give reasons for his/her conservation approaches and practical work proceeds logically by following the established procedure in conservation. The student has fulfilled the course assignments independently enough. The student is able to acquire independently reliable data upon course theme and is able to analyze this data.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student masters the subject area and has achieved excellent level of knowledge and skills. The student shows excellent theoretical and practical knowledge and is able to apply her/his knowledge. The student understands the significance method and is able to apply it to his/her own work. The student is able to fulfill independently both written and practical assignments. The student is able to acquire independently reliable data upon course theme and is able to analyze and apply this data. The student is able to discuss the course theme by using relevant terminology and concepts. The student is able to give reasons for his/her conservation choices and practical work proceeds logically by following the established procedure in conservation. The student works independently and shows self-motivation and creativity in problem solving.
