Learning outcomes

The student understands the concept of human resources management and its functions. The student will achieve the ability to work in HR function of different organizations or organizations specialized in HR services.

- HRM as a part of strategic management
- HRM as a function and its fields in different organizations

Prerequisites

Workplace of the future 5 cr or equivalent studies

Teaching methods

Interactive lectures, small group discussions, group tasks, reading HR literature, self-evaluation, independent work

Spring 2022.

Evening teaching.

Alternative way of completing the course: literature exam 100% (+report).

Student workload

130 hours

The course consists of learning sessions, independent work, assignment work and a self-evaluation of one's own learning.

Further information for students

The lecturer will lecture in English.

Both Finnish and English will be used as working languages.

Students are free to take part in the course in Finnish and / or English. All learning tasks may be done in Finnish or English.

Note! Remote sessions via Zoom at least during January 2022 [18.01.2022 & 25.01.2022]

Assessment methods and criteria

The final grade for the course will be based on the following:
*active participation in learning sessions 25 p.
*assignment work 75 p.
*self-evaluation of own learning PASS / FAIL

The 0 - 5 grading scale will be used to assess students' learning.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students have achieved the course objectives fairly. Students will be able to identify, define and use the course subject area’s concepts and models. The student understands the criteria and principles of the expertise development.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students have achieved the course objectives well, even though the knowledge and skills need improvement on some areas. Students are able to define the course concepts and models and are able to justify the analysis. The student is able to apply their knowledge in leisure, study and work situations. The student understands the importance of expertise in the field of business and is able to analyze his/her own expertise.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students have achieved the objectives of the course with excellent marks. Students master commendably the course subject area’s concepts and models. Students are able to make justified and fluent analysis and to present concrete development measures. The students are well prepared to apply their knowledge in leisure, study and work situations. Students are able to analyze the business sector expertise and the evolvement of their own expertise.
