Objective

The student knows the fundamentals of mechanics of materials, can design simple structures to withstand static loads.

Content

1. Basic vontents of the mechanics of materials
2. Axially loaded members, beams
3. Torsion
4. Stress state, and failure theories
5. Statically indeterminate structures
6. Buckling of columns

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student can analyze simple problems of mechanics of materials. The student can calculate the second moment of area. The student can compute the buckling load.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student knows how to calculate stresses and deflections in beams. The student can calculate the shear stress and deflection of a torsion bar.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student knows how to analyze statically indeterminate structures. The student can analyze structures under combined loading.
