Content

Rhythm & Blues Skills is divided into two parts: History of Rhythm & Blues and Rhythm & Blues Theory.

The history section deals with the subject from the perspectives of personal and band history, central phenomena and events of rhythm & blues, aiming to give the student a clear picture of the development of rhythm & blues. The history section contains audio examples and assignments, as well as written materials. The subject is examined mainly from the 1940s to the 2000s. The course will include listening to important artists and bands, exploring musical phenomena, aesthetics and characteristics of music styles, outlining the technological developments of the era and the significance of rhythm & blues music in time and society. Teaching takes place through lectures, independent work and group work.

The aim of the theory section is to give the student a clear picture of the musical characteristics of rhythm & blues through examples of listening, playing, singing and transcription. During the course, the student must make one band transcription containing the melody, chords and other background elements in the form of personalized parts. There will also be other set assignments. Teaching takes place through lectures, independent work and group work.
