Learning outcomes

The student
• understands the recent environmental changes at local and global level for sustainable development and their effects on construction and real estate management
• can interpret natural preservation and environmental impact statements
• can explain the collaborative design process for the built environment and
the importance of urban planning for traffic, housing, industry and other sectors
• recognises the importance of social responsibility, including barrier free design for the physical environment, and corporate responsibility for businesses
• is able to interpret international sustainable development conference and research results

Content

• Natural and built environment and its relationship to the ecological, social and economic environment
• Critical factors such clean air, soil, and water, and impact of pollution
• Energy savings in buildings and producing energy with renewables

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student
• can apply basic methods of low energy building design
• shows understanding of sustainable development
• is able to understand urban planning for traffic, housing and industry
• knows the basics of soil, air and water quality control.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition of the criteria mentioned above, the student
• is able to assess solar, wind and geothermal energy systems
• can explain social responsibility and corporate responsibility
• can actively use international communication skills.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the criteria mentioned above, the student
• can apply the concepts low energy buildings
• fully understands sustainable development both locally and globally
• can write academic reports on reducing CO2 emissions, using renewable energy sources and sustainable renovations.
