Content
Clinical practice includes learning laboratory and simulation studies 2.5 ects
Teaching methods
Clinical practice in acute care units (emergency, intensive care or perioperative nursing). The clinical practice includes laboratories and simulations organized in connection with theory teaching. These must be completed before starting the clinical practice. In addition, the student must have successfully completed all basic practices. The drug calculation exam included in the theoretical studies must have been passed. Training may be denied if the drug calculations test has not been passed.
Location and time
Clinical practice, weeks 43-50. Practise cannot be started earlier but can be postponed if student does not finish the studies during this term. Practise needs to be accomplished at the latest day before graduating.
Learning materials and recommended literature
Vocational literature on the practice environment given in connection with theoretical studies.Student will be informed by the practise unit about possible literature necessary to read before commencing practise.
Alternative completion methods of implementation
No optional methods. The student can apply for RPL for the clinical practice with previous nursing experience, but this is not recommended. The student makes an RLP application to their own tutor teacher. The clinical practice can also be done as a paid nursing work if so agreed with the employer..

International connections
It is possible to complete the clinical practice in an international exchange in emergency, intensive care units or perioperative units according to the instructions of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.
Student workload
Clinical practice is 15 ects which contains labs and simulations (3 ects). The practice is 8 weeks and 320 hours. During the practice, the working methods, shifts and general principles of the work community are followed in connection with the practice. During the practice there is a written assignment (research club), separate instructions provided for this during theory studies. Doing the written assignment does not reduce the number of hours in practice.
