Objective

Students will identify the possibilities of regional networking in strengthening the clients’ participation and agency. Students can identify the existing structures of the community, its history, agents and networks. They identify the challenges faced by the community and encourage co-operation between different agents. Students know how to apply different research and teamwork methods in regional work.

Content

Intrinsic and cultural structures, layers and historical phases of community: sub and partial cultures. Examination of reality and starting social changes through action research methods. Regional work, networking and community work. Traditions of neighbourhood and local activity and socio-pedagogical work.

Further information

During the study module the student will be exposed to a specific area of Helsinki. We will explore the the practice of community work in the area and role and functions of different organisations and the people living in the area. We will explore the possibilities for the future networking and collaboration.

We will explore the urban area from the socio-cultural point of view. The aim is to produce useful information for town planning and networking through a cross-sectional approach.
