Objective

The student knows the different genres of media and which technologies support them.
Understand the need of the model of experimentation-driven innovation when creating ideas, designing, developing and testing. The student can use and adapt experimentation-driven methods. S/he understands the importance of user-centred design in design processes and can execute the different phases of the design process as well as argument why users should be involved in the process.
The student can choose and ground what tools should be used.
The student can work in international work environments and communicate effectively.
S/he can express her/his opinions in meetings that are conducted in English. The students can read and understand text from his/her main subject area in English and use the special terminology of his/her subject area.
The student can understand spoken English and make notes from it.

Content

In the course a mediaservice will be designed and developed. User-centred methods will be used in the design process. The student can use his/her theoretical and practical skills when creating ideas, designing services and applications taking into account user experience.
In the course the full user-centred design process will be executed with methods tools from the model of experimentation-driven innovation. The students can select and ground what methods to use and know the theoretical background of the methods.
English communication
The course includes english communication and terminologies for professional meetings as well as practices for the meeting minutes. Methods to read English scientific and professional publications will be practiced as well as how to take notes effectively and write out meeting minutes.
Presentation manners and techniques will be practiced, which includes: presentation, interactions and providing peer feedback.

The students has achieved the minimum requirements of the course, when s/he recognises and can define and use the terminology and models used in the course as well as recognise the needs of the target group and the user-centred methods.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student has achieved well the goals of the course when s/he understand most of the subject areas discussed during the course. The student can select and use the methods of user-centred design and experimentation-driven innovation, s/he can select and use appropriate tools for the design, development, testing and teamwork. The student knows well the terminology, models and processes of the user-centred design and experimentation-driven innovation. The student can use what s/he has learn in work life.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student knows commendable the course subject area, when s/he knows, can adapt and argument which methods, techniques and processes to use when designing services and tools for users. The students can use the terminology fluently in communication and teamwork as well as express her ideas professionally in work life.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student has passable knowledge when s/he can recognise and define and use the models, methods, techniques and terminology of the subject area of the course.

TX00CD62 Fundamentals of Web Development or similar (contact HOPS-person).
