Objective

The student can describe the neurology-based functional ability disorders related to everyday life and functional ability. The student can describe the special features related to the growth and development of children and youth, as well as their effect on functional ability. The student can plan physiotherapy and rehabilitation together with the client. The student can critically assess the results of the chosen physiotherapy methods in the client’s physiotherapy. The student can operate in collaboration based on multiprofessional expertise together with the client and working life operators.

Psychomotor development and development theories
Everyday life of children, their living environments and family-orientedness
Assessing and strengthening functional ability of children in cooperation based on multiprofessional expertise
The individual and age-based functional ability of children, typical development delays and functional ability disorders
Motor learning of children
Objective physiotherapy based on children’s needs
Special characteristics of physiotherapy in paediatric neurology and children who require special support

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students master professional concepts, and they justify their choices using the comprehensive knowledge base, based on the client’s needs. Students assess systematically the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions. Students act independently and professionally aiming at goals set to them in their operating environment as well as apply working methods appropriately and safely. Students work according to professional ethics as well as commit themselves to the group, enhancing its functioning.

Students master professional concepts and make choices together with the client using the comprehensive knowledge base. They also assess and develop their own functioning systematically. Students act independently and professionally aiming at goals set to them in their operating environment. They also apply working methods flexibly and safely. Students work according to professional ethics considering the characteristics of various situations, and in their work they commit themselves to the code of professional conduct.

Students master professional concepts and make choices together with the client using the comprehensive knowledge base, in changing environments. They also assess their own functioning and produce knowledge to develop their operating environment. Students act independently and professionally and develop their working and operating environments together with other actors. Prerequisites

Student knows the basics of assessment and promotion of functioning in physiotherapy. Student knows the basics of body functions and structures. Student knows the basics of physiotherapy in musculoskeletal disorders. Student has accomplished minimum of 6 credits of clinical practice in physiotherapy.
