Objective

The students
- understand the basics of nuclear medicine methods and the preparation and safe use of
radiopharmaceuticals
- understand the operating principles of nuclear medicine equipment
- know the application areas of the commonest examinations and treatments
- are able to take part in examinations and procedures in a patient-oriented way
and know the principles of radiation protection and quality assurance in nuclear medicine
- are be able to process, apply and communicate about scientific information in English

Content

Radioactive decay processes, radioactive radiation and radiopharmaceuticals
The operating principles of a gamma camera, positron-emitting tomograph and fusion imaging
and the basics of analysing the results
Applications and performance of nuclear medicine examinations and treatments
Principles and administering of nuclear medicine treatments
Safe use of radiopharmaceuticals, patient doses and their evaluation, reference levels
Evaluating the radiation risk and explaining this to the patient in an understandable way
Radiation protection of patient, staff and other persons in nuclear medicine examinations and treatments
Quality assurance in nuclear medicine

Teaching methods

Activating lecture, guided assignments, exam
Students must confirm their attendance for a course implementation by being present when tuition begins or in another manner agreed with the lecturer; for example, by returning the first course assignment.
