Objective
The student
• understands the basic features of a company in field of printing industry
• understands the meaning of the project in the company´s line-of-business
• understands the needs for the company to solve this very project issue
• has an overview of companies operating in media as well as in packaging industry, and learns the basic elements in the production
• is able to acquire information and use various methods for solving the project problem
• is able to compile and present a distinct solution for the industry-based project
• perceives an overall understanding of the societal influence of the printing industry
Content
The course is built out of five subthemes and group or individual practical learning task (compiled solution and its presentation).
• basics of the project work (Artto, Martinsuo, Kujala 2008, Projektiliiketoiminta, WSOY, s. 1?50)
• material tied to the issue offered by the company, as well as company specific material
• common learning material about the subject supporting to perform the project
• printing industry technical and process management material (Kipphan 2001, Handbook of Printmedia, Springer)
• project solution (group or individual practical work) supervised by the company´s reprentative and Metropolia´s teacher.
Qualifications
There are recommended introductory study courses are in print media, eg. Marketing and business economics 5 ECTS and Printing methods, materials and visuality 5 ECTS and digital printing and prepress 5 ECTS, Trends in the printing industry 5 ECTS, and Basics of B2B Selling 5 ECTS.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student has achieved the course objectives fairly. The student is able to identify, define and use the course subject area’s central concepts, models and is able to utilize the most common tools. The student understands principles of the industrial project work and is able to write and showcase a brief presentation of his/her solutions or suggestions.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student has achieved the course objectives and knows the course concepts and models in reference to justifying the project solution. The student is capable in applying acquired knowledge in new situations. The student understands the importance of the project work for the company and is able to write and showcase a solution/suggestions for the company to proceed.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The students has achieved the objectives of the course with excellent marks. Students master the course subject area’s concepts, models and tools, and is capable in making justified and fluent analysis and to present concrete development measures. The student is well prepared to apply their knowledge in new situations. The student is mature to write and showcase a distinct analyse/solution/suggestion for the company to proceed and is able to utilize in practice the new skills in the following project in a new environment.
