Objective

The student
• can identify, describe and produce rhythmic phenomena both in writing and singing
• deepens his expertise with various rhythmic phenomena in rhythm music styles and is able to produce swing and groove in both even feel and triplet feel phrasing
• knows music metrics and the differences between additive and divisive rhythmic approach in different rhythm music traditions
• gains the skills, with the help of the training material, to analyse and highlight specific features of different songs
• is able to work independently
• is prepared to continue with the Music Theory and Ear Training 3 course.

Content

• The most common irregular time signatures and time signature changes
• Polyrhythms and polymetric sequences
• Tempo changes and metric modulation
• Time feel, flow, and swing, as well as phrasing and articulation in different styles
• The concepts of divisive and additive rhythm

Qualifications

Completion of Rhythm Studies 1 or equivalent knowledge and skills.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student
• identifies, describes, and produces rhythmic and small-form phenomena according to their own musical style, both in writing and orally
• demonstrates their ability to analyse and highlight the specific features of individual pieces using the provided material
• is capable of independent work.
