Objective
On completion of the course, the student:
• understands the basics of building information modelling and its applications in the different phases of the building life cycle
• understands open data modelling standards
• is able to visualise and interactively use building information models
• is able to use building information model software for checking and performing quantity takeoffs
• is familiar with current building information model requirements.

• Comprehensive basic understanding of BIM modeling and the role of a structural engineer in BIM projects
• Phases and roles of BIM in building construction projects
• Guidelines and practices of BIM
• Existing BIM models using various software programmes

The student knows the uses of building information modelling and the software used in building information modelling.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student understands the basics of building information modelling and can independently visualise and make use of information models in a variety of ways. The student can independently use building model software for checking and performing quantity takeoffs and is familiar with the current data model requirements.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student has a deep understanding of building information modelling and is able to perform demanding tasks with building information modelling software. The student can independently use building information modelling software and perform quantity takeoffs and apply current building information modelling requirements.
