Osaamistavoitteet

After the course the students will have an understanding of:
• Understand the fundamental principles and operation of lithium-ion batteries.
• Analyze battery pack configurations, including Cell-to-Pack and Cell-to-Vehicle technologies.
• Explore key safety functions and test norms in battery technology.
• Learn about the importance of abuse battery testing and its role in ensuring safety.
• Investigate sustainable materials and innovations in battery design.
• Examine battery cell recycling processes and their role in a circular economy.

Sisältö

This course provides an in-depth understanding of battery technologies, focusing on lithium-ion battery systems. Participants will learn about the theoretical fundamentals of batteries, their operation, and integration into battery packs, including advanced concepts such as Cell-to-Pack (CTP) and Cellto-Vehicle (CTV) architectures. A key focus will be on safety mechanisms, including critical test standards and the necessity of abuse battery testing.
Additionally, sustainable material approaches and battery recycling processes will be explored to address environmental challenges in battery technology.

Esitietovaatimukset

Participants should have a basic understanding of electrical engineering and chemistry.
Prior knowledge of energy storage systems and battery technology is beneficial but not required. This course is also open to students who wish to gain a better understanding of batteries, regardless of their prior knowledge.
