Objective

Upon completion of the course, the student
• is able to explain the principles of heat treatment processes and their effects on the properties of materials, describe the principles of different heat treatment and surface treatment techniques, and apply heat treatment techniques to improve the mechanical properties of materials
• is able to analyse the optimisation of heat treatment processes and their industrial applicability, and to evaluate the economic and environmental impact of heat treatments.

• Tempering, annealing, normalisation and their effects
• Optimisation of surface treatments
• Industrial applications and process control
