Objective
Students are able to
describe the abnormal eye conditions, risk factors and treatment for:
eye socket and diseases of the area around the eye
diseases of the conjunctiva, dry eye
corneal diseases
scleral and episcleral diseases
diseases of the anterior choroid (iris and ciliary muscle),
pupillary, accommodation and refractive pathologies,
anterior chamber, angle structure and IOP
cataract
examine, describe their findings and evaluate their significance using the following research methods: contact tonometry, contact pachymetry and gonioscopy.
Content
OCULAR DISEASES:
Eye socket and the area around the eye:
Lacrimal organs and fluid production:
Conjunctiva, cornea, sclera
Iris and anterior choroid
Anterior chamber, anterior chamber angle and abnormal IOP
INVESTIGATIVE METHODS, THEORY:
Dry eye tests
Microscopic views of eyelids and cornea in primary conjunctival disease
Differential diagnosis of viral infection, bacterial infection and allergic conjunctivitis
Contact tonometry, contact pachymetry, gonioscopy
Qualifications
The prerequisite for this course is the successful completion of a valid course of study in accordance with the curriculum in force, where the student has demonstrated sufficient knowledge and skills in the following subjects: General and ocular pathology and pharmacology, clinical optometry and investigative techniques.
The prerequisites are fulfilled when the student has passed the following courses: General Pharmacology, Ocular Pharmacology, Pathology 1, Pathology 2 and Clinical Optometry and Investigative Techniques .
