Objective

The student
• is able to describe the assistive devices service system, legislation and operating environment related to the assistive devices process
• is able to apply knowledge in assistive devices in the tasks, duties and operating environments of their field
• is able to apply their competence in assistive devices in various situations with clients, including assessments for assistive devices, guidance and advice
• evaluates environmental solutions that promote human participation and applies their competence in the design and evaluation of accessible environments
• can describe how assistive devices promote people’s functional capacity and knows how to evaluate the need for assistive devices.
• becomes familiar with the national assistive devices sector and how it operates
• recognises the assistive devices sector as part of the global sustainable development environment
• understands the basics of safe transfers and how the most common assistive devices work.

Practical training, 2 credits

The students is able to apply the aforementioned learning outcomes of the course to practical training specific to the degree. The physiotherapy module includes training in applied exercise and aquatic therapy as well as the completion of a lifesaving course.

• Safe assistance in transfers and movement
• Safe use of the most common assistive devices and guidance in their use
• Risk assessment (RAI)
• Degree-specific applied practical training, 2 credits
