Objective

On completion of the course, the student will understand the characteristics of different types of national basic spatial data, their production process and possible applications. The student can independently search for national basic spatial data and use them in an appropriate manner in practical applications.

Content

- Collection and use of the National Land Survey’s basic spatial data using QGIS software
- Reference systems and their implementation
- Elevation models produced from national airborne laser scanning data
- Production of aerial and orthophoto images at the National Land Survey
- Production of 3D building data

Qualifications

Geographical Information, or a general basic understanding of spatial data production (if the participant is not a graduate student in the Land Surveying degree programme).

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student the production processes of different types of basic spatial data and the possibilities of using the spatial data resulting from different processes. The student understands the significance reference systems in the production of basic spatial data.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student understands the impact of the different stages of the production process on the material produced. The student is able to search for any necessary basic spatial data and apply it to practical problems.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student demonstrates an excellent understanding of the characteristics of basic spatial data, and is able to use them as required without difficulty. The student is able to combine various types of basic spatial data to produce new analyses.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the production process of basic spatial data. In addition, the student will be able to independently retrieve and apply basic spatial information in practical applications.
