Objective
The student knows how to act in pre-analytics in accordance with the values and professional ethics governing clinical laboratory work and health care. The student is able to work in a client-centric way and recognise the importance of the client experience in the operation and development of laboratory services. The student is able to identify the laboratory’s internal and external clients. Understands the rights of the patient/client and is familiar with legislation governing the rights and privacy protection of patients.
Understands the significance of pre-analytical factors to the results of laboratory analyses and guides clients using an evidence-based approach. Understands the importance of recommendations for sampling and treatment as part of high-quality sampling and laboratory work. Is able to collect, handle, preserve and dispatch laboratory samples to a high quality standard and carry out patient examinations and sample tests performed in primary health care. Identifies factors relating to patient safety and well-being in sampling and patient examinations and is able to work safely. Understands the importance of working aseptically and complies with aseptic guidelines. Is able to perform a high-quality ECG registration. Is able to name the sources of errors in ECG registration, recognises artifacts on an ECG tracing and knows how to remove them. Recognises a normal electrocardiogram and the most common anomalies. Is able to take high-quality nasal, pharyngal, fungal and gynaecological samples. Understands the key practices related to the prevention of infections and to aseptic techniques, and promotes safety in their work environment through their own actions. Is able to use the laboratory data system for submitting examination requests. Is able to act under the principles of sustainable development in terms of pre-analytics and taking samples.
