Osaamistavoitteet

Tableau is a visual analytics and reporting service empowering individuals and organizations to make the most of their data using meaningful visualizations. This course is designed to help the student learn the essential skills of data visualization and practice communicating with data using Tableau. The student will learn how to create visualizations, apply design principles, organize data, design dashboards, and communicate insights through storytelling with data to empower more meaningful business decisions and effective business intelligence solutions. By the end of this course, the student will learn data visualization, data transformation, data modeling, and creating reports and dashboards through Tableau Desktop, and creating opportunities for key decision-makers to discover data patterns such as customer purchase behavior and sales trends or production bottlenecks.

- The student is familiar with the concepts of business intelligence (BI) and business analytics as well as their differences
- The student is familiar with the differences between traditional and modern BI solutions
- The student is familiar with the basic concepts involved in data analysis
- The student knows how to set up Tableau account and install and run Tableau Desktop
- The student is familiar with the building blocks of Tableau
- The student is familiar with importing basic datasets into Tableau

Evaluation criteria - good (3-4)
- The student understands the concepts of BI, business analytics, data analysis, and their differences
- The student understands the main building blocks of Tableau and how they are connected
- The student knows how to connect to different data sources in Tableau Desktop
- The student knows how import text, CSV, and Excel data into Tableau Desktop
- The student knows how to apply transformations on data using Tableau Desktop
- The student knows how to visualize data using simple plots such as bar chart and pie chart
- The student is familiar with customizing visualizations in Tableau Desktop

- The student understands the structure of transformations in Tableau Desktop and how they work
- The student knows how to apply general transformations, text column transformations, number column transformations, and combine queries
- The student understands quick sorting, filtering, calculated columns, trend lines, reference lines, and measures in Tableau
- The student can visualize different types of data including maps and dates using different types of plots
- The student is familiar with the best practices of presenting data in Tableau Desktop
- The student knows how to create dashboards and stories as well as how to configure and manage them
- The student knows how to export dashboards and share them with people
