Instrument Group Tuition 2 and Introduction to Teaching Large GroupsLaajuus (5 ECTS)

Objective

The student has readiness to independently guide learning in their main instrument in group tuition. They are able to support learning in a group in a motivating way, to choose musical material and to produce meaningful assignments for the group. They are able to recognize and solve problem situations in learning processes and to support and motivate themselves in continuous development and reflection of competence in group pedagogy.

The student becomes familiar with methods and possibilities in large group teaching of their instrument. The student creates professional networks with music schools and colleges.

Content

Common pedagogical lectures and workshops: introduction to large group pedagogy, peer learning between different instruments, instrument-specific lectures/workshops, genre-specific lectures/workshops.
Teaching practice: tutoring in pair or small group tuition (2 learner pairs/groups) and continuous reflection alone and in a group, observation.

Qualifications

Instrument Group Tuition 1 and Pedagogy of Improvisation course or equivalent skills. Observation and guided reflection.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

- Attendance of tuition
- Teaching practice, guidance sessions and feedback
- Observation assignments, also in different educational establishments, guided reflection
- Completion of learning assignments within the given timetable
