Objective

The student can utilise a holistic and creative approach in learning and experiencing music in their practice as music educators. They can support learning in different music activities and in different contexts working with learners of different ages and needs for additional pedagogical attention, in one-to-one tuition or with groups in music. They can apply their pedagogical knowledge and skills in early childhood music education, special music education, in facilitating the first steps of learning to play an instrument or in vocal studies or in various community music contexts.

The student applies music education practice and creates new approaches to use music and creativity in new contexts in the society also in multiprofessional teams. They recognise various elements that have affected their musical learning and can reflect on these critically to be used as material on their journey of becoming music educators.

Content

Learning occurs through participatory and creative group work, lectures, discussions, guided assignments both individually and in small groups, learning diary, written assignments based on literature and participation in the projects in collaboration with working life. The cornerstones are facilitated reflection and sharing one´s experiences in the group of peers.

Qualifications

See competence goals for the Various Pathways to Music course. Individual assignments or learning tracks can be created according to recognised prior experiential learning.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Assessment is based on continuous evaluation of group work, given assignments, participation in the projects and the achieved learning in accordance with the learning outcomes of the course.
