Objective
The student understands the underlying elements in group dynamics in creative activities both from learners’ and teachers’ perspectives and can develop their pedagogical thinking. They can reflect on theoretical knowledge underpinning learner-centred music education and use that in developing their own practice and professional knowledge base. The student recognises different pedagogical approaches and the implications of pedagogical actions in opening possibilities for learning in music. They are able to create learning environments and to make plans for activities for groups in music taking a learner-centred approach and a creative attitude. They can reflect on theoretical, experiential and practical knowledge building bridges between different forms of knowledge. They are able to analyse group activities and processes as well as to indicate underlying elements and phenomena in learning/teaching situations. They utilise various elements of music education practice and recognize the possibilities of applying these in other contexts. Students widen actively their understanding about learning, creativity and teaching reflecting on information from various sources and in different forms of knowledge. They can use collaborative learning for the benefit of themselves as well as others.
Content
Learning occurs through participatory and creative group work, lectures, discussions, guided assignments both individually and in small groups, learning diary, written assignments based on literature and participation in the projects in collaboration with working life. The cornerstones are facilitated reflection and sharing one´s experiences in the group of peers.
Qualifications
See competence goals for the Learning and Teaching Music 2 course. Individual assignments or learning tracks can be created according to recognized prior experiential learning.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
Assessment is based on continuous evaluation of group work, given assignments, participation in the projects and the achieved learning in accordance with the learning outcomes of the course.
