Objective

Students know how to apply the principles of osteopathy to their work as osteopaths. They are able to explain the osteopathic treatment models and their indications of use. Students are capable of choosing the suitable models for the cases and justifying their choice. Students understand the significance of self-care to health and know how to justify it as part of the osteopathic treatment. They can utilise the structure and methods of problem solving in their education and guidance. Students are able to utilise verbal, visual and tactile education. They are able to justify their guidance and education from the anatomical and physiological aspects. Students can provide guidance on doing exercises on an individual basis to increase metabolism and activity.

Content

Osteopathic principles and treatment models: biomechanical, metabolic and neurologic model. Synthesis of osteopathic treatment techniques. Patient education. Active and passive muscle stretching. Exercises aimed at gaining strength. Stabilation and coordination exercises.

Students analyse the relationships between appropriate core concepts as well as justify their choices using the knowledge base of their own professional field. They analyse the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions.
Students act according to the rules and instructions given in their operating environment, and they use working methods appropriately and safely.
Students work according to the professional ethics of their own field, and they act flexibly as group members.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
