Objective
After completing this course the student is familiar with the physical and social study environment; is familiar with the key information systems of Metropolia; is able to write a CV and a cover letter; is able to give a professional technical presentation; is able to work as a productive member in a team; has experience with academic studying methods, learning and communication skills; has developed problem solving skills required in learning of mathematics and natural sciences; is able to use software applications to graphically present numerical data and simple mathematical models; is able to independently learn and use standard office software; and can produce web based documentation and presentations.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student is somewhat familiar with study-related vocabulary and conventions of professional presentations; acts competently in the physical, social and technical study environment; is able to use fluently personal computers in university studies; can create a small website using a markup language; is able to write simple study-related texts and to give short presentations; is responsible for the completion of assignments, and adapts his or her own behaviour to circumstances in solving problems; and takes responsibility for completion of written and oral assignments.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
In addition to the satisfactory criteria, the student is familiar with study-related texts and conventions of professional presentations; has an ability to apply knowledge and strategies to process information and data, and to present it in different formats; is able to write clear study-related texts and to give accurate presentations; takes responsibility for the evaluation and improvement of her/ his work activities; is productive member of a multicultural team; and the student is active and responsible in written and oral assignments.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
In addition to the good criteria, the student masters the main concepts of media and information technology; understands the function of study-related texts and conventions of professional presentations; works effortlessly in complex information network environments; writes texts that are clear, well composed, almost free from mistakes, and follow the conventions of the intended genre; is able to reflect, plan and regulate study work when performing individual and team assignments; and participates in field-specific communication, follows the appropriate conventions of the situation and initiates communication also in demanding professional communication situations.
