Objective

On completion of the course, the student is familiar with older, either no longer used or partly used, HVAC and electrical
systems, supplies, fittings and appliances as well as their special features from the renovation point of view.
The student knows methods of assessing the condition of older structures and systems in order to decide between preservation and renewal.
The student knows the special considerations in applying building regulations on renovation sites.

Old methods of installation
Old fittings and their replacement with new ones
Condition surveys
Applying rules and regulations to renovation
Contracting on renovation sites
Special requirements arising from architectural features.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student understands the special requirements that currently existing buildings pose for renovation.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition to the requirements listed above, the student can interpret how the special features of existing buildings influence renovation.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the requirements listed above, the student can find solutions to challenges that come up in renovation projects.
