Objective

Students are able to fit soft contact lenses including toric and multifocal contact lenses. They are able to do a follow-up examination for the contact lens wearer and identify the most common contact lens complications. They can document the findings and fitting details appropriately and write a contact lens prescription. Students are familiar with the basic principles of fitting rigid gas permeable lenses and are able to fit rigid lenses in basic cases. They are able to name the general features of specialist contact lenses. Students can search for information on lenses currently on the market and are able to describe the contact lens market and operators in it. They know and apply the legislation relating to contact lenses and its requirements in regards to the fitting of lenses and contact lens records. Students know where to find the latest scientific research data on contact lenses. After completing work placement (6 credits) students are able to fit soft contact lenses, advise customers on safe use of contact lenses and give instructions on contact lens solutions and care. They are able to make efficient eye examinations to the customers and analyze their vision situations with variable methods.

Content

Fitting and follow-up examinations of toric and multifocal contact lenses, contact lens records, fitting principles for rigid lenses, specialist contact lenses, contact lens products and markets, legislation relating to contact lens fitting.

The student is able to:

The student is able to:

- to act responsibly, taking safety issues into consideration
- argue his choices on the basis of professional ethics
- organise and manage the operation of a group and project

The student is able to:
